Guide Dog -
It’s always exciting to learn about animals. Whether its pets, wild animals, insects or animals that live in the ocean, these amazing creatures always bring a sense of happiness and interest to childhood learning.
But did you ever think that some animals are actually trained to “work” just like humans, not only to contribute to society, but to help humans in need, such as guide dogs who are specific types of service dogs, trained to assist people who are blind or have low vision. Guide dogs, are actually one of the most familiar sorts of working dogs, providing an invaluable service to humans.
As part of our “Animal Theme” our Senior Level classes were so lucky to meet two very special and unique guide dogs when they were visited by the Taiwan Guide Dog Association(台灣導盲犬協會). During this activity they learned exactly why this amazing association was established in 2002 and how dogs like Bobbie and Jungle make a big difference in the lives of the visually impaired, allowing the visually impaired to do things with greater speed and safety.
Through this wonderful activity, our students got the opportunity to interact with these special dogs and they also learned some very valuable facts about them, more specifically what people can and cannot do around them. Most importantly was learning, seeing and understanding how important and valuable teamwork is, whether between humans and dogs, or even friends in the classroom helping each other out. A big thank you to Taiwan Guide Dog Association for coming to visit us. We hope we can also spread more awareness to help all the dogs like Bobbie and Jungle.
